(Moved here from GD) We need a central figure, someone with a bully pulpit who can rally the troops. [View all]
People are desperate to do something. You are, I am.
I see people in threads trying to figure out how to organize no spend days. I see people in threads trying to organize boycotts of companies who have capitulated without a fight. I see people calling for Democrats to flood the phone lines of our Democratic representatives who are voting for the crap being passed, thereby normalizing this disaster.
These are excellent ideas. The powers-that-be fear our anger, our buying power and our primary power. Flexing these en masse would have an effect.
The problem is, these are tiny voices. Small pockets of people shouting against the wind will not be heard. Those excellent ideas and intentions will never amount to enough force. We have been thinking this way since 2016 and none of our good intentions have amounted to the kind of movement we need.
We need a central figure or group who have a bully pulpit who can rally us together into specific directions so our efforts will have force.
Who could do that?
I am guessing some would say Bernie. But I think hes a guy who communicates policy. I dont think hes the guy to respond to crisis. I have no idea who the central figure should be. Perhaps it shouldnt even be someone in Congress. Obama? Kamala? Pete? Stacy Abrams? Howard Dean, even? I actually think Pete and/or Stacy might be great at it. Theyre strategic, excellent communicators, and they just get stuff done.
If you had to name someone to be a central, rallying figure to organize Democratic citizen opposition, who would it be?
We have some numbers here. Maybe we could recruit someone.
