(6,991 posts)Something tells me that with 1 in 7 families nationwide depending on food banks/pantries across this country (And usage is currently at a record high), that number's going to go WAYYYYY up over the next 4 years under a pence/tRump/putin administration.
I have a friend whose donated her time for many years off and on working at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank here in the LA County area, and she tells me that there are doing well. That donations come in steadily and that they usually have food on hand. However, she tells me that many in the food banking community are--and excuse my French--scared "shitless" at what this next administration will bring over the next 4 years and beyond. She's lifelong Catholic and cursing is not in her vocabulary, so it stunned me when she said shitless--and said it over and over again when we were talking a few weeks ago
I fully admit that I can be pretty pessimistic and very stark at times and for extended periods of time, but my friend has always been the optimist for not only me, but for our/her friends and family, and I/we love her so because she's never allowed me/us to get down or stay down emotionally. But, after what happened TO this country on November 8th, after that racist, crazy, insane dictator was put INTO the presidency, not only is her faith shaken, but many of her friends who work/volunteer in and around the food bank community that she corresponds with are pretty scared and sad because they feel austerity's coming and coming fast and hard to ALL food banks across this country. I can honestly say this is just about the first time that I've seen her negative and sullen like this for an extended period of time after an election, and I've known her for almost 28 years.
IF she's like this, then I KNOW I'm like
