11. It's inevitably justified with obvious false equivalencies

The alert text usually goes something like, "what if the poster had said the same thing about a ______ person" (fill in the blank with a social class guaranteed to draw the biggest emotional response).

Religion is an idea. It isn't a race, creed, color, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identification. Bashing an idea that obviously is the root cause of a lot of social ills, including bigotry, isn't bigotry. Bashing people who subscribe to those ideas for no other reason is bigotry. Not differentiating between those two things is where a lot of people fuck up.
