Related: About this forumSo, it looks like pointing out that faith drives ISIS makes you a bigot in DU's eyes
Threads that point out faith standing behind the Brussels bombs get alerted on as 'bigoted', and barely stand; many replies in them that call the DUer a 'bigot' for posting it are left untouched. I alerted on one such post - its only content was to call the thread starter a "hateful little bigot" - and the jury left it 1-6.
This is one time where I really do think DU is giving Islam a pass - and that it wouldn't give Christianity a similar pass. If there's some LGBT bigotry that is cleared inspired by a Christian group or belief, DU is happy to point out the culpability.

It's a heinous betrayal of humanity to tolerate what should, to any reasonable person, be intolerable.

(49,533 posts)We've seen this play out many times now. Every time there is an Islamic terror attack, DU falls over itself trying to blame Western imperialism and Dick Cheney for it. Nope, it's never the "religion of peace" even though there is no such thing. Every religion has blood on its hands.

(102,666 posts)I never thought I'd be risking losing alert ability for 24 hours by objecting to a DUer being called a hateful little bigot. Maybe it was just the chance of a biased jury ...

(18,219 posts)That isn't even saying that "Muslims are all terrorist" or "Muslims are bad"...which IS bigoted. There are places on DU that I am not bothering with these days, and it for that very reason. I can't even handle it right now.

(36,911 posts)I could really care less about whatever silly superstitions people want to subscribe. I have a problem with anyone who wants to force their arbitrary system of ethics on anyone else. A book that prescribes the correct way to sell your children into slavery isn't a book that should be used to tell other people how to live their lives.

(34,582 posts)our believers are the pushy type. I work second shift- rarely to bed before 2 AM. At 8 I had babble thumpers knocking at my door, even though I have a "no soliciting" sign up, want to tell me the "good news". I told the the good news is that if they got of my doorstep post haste there wouldn't be blood. Shit- if I want to hear your crap, I will go to church.
On edit: I should add some history. When I first moved in 14 years ago, the Mormons paid me a visit. I politely asked them to remove my house from their list, because I wasn't interested. They complied, and I haven't seen them since. I have told the baptists time and time again, even visiting their pastor, and they can't catch a fucking hint. Once a year, prior to zombie Jeebus day, they are knocking on my door.

(36,911 posts)Fortunately my city has a pretty tough solicitor's law. If you post a no-soliciting sign even the Jesus peddlers can't ring you. If they did, I would call the cops on them. So far none have tried. A least a few of the other cities around here have the same law, so if you live within a municipality you might check. If not you can always copy another city's law and start bugging your council members to approve it. It's really a great thing. It's pretty rare when a salesperson knocks on my door. Occasionally the shitbag roofers will swarm in after a big storm. I hand them a copy of the law, tell them I'm calling the cops, and shut the door. It's kinda funny to watch them run. I suspect many of them have warrants.

(36,911 posts)The alert text usually goes something like, "what if the poster had said the same thing about a ______ person" (fill in the blank with a social class guaranteed to draw the biggest emotional response).
Religion is an idea. It isn't a race, creed, color, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identification. Bashing an idea that obviously is the root cause of a lot of social ills, including bigotry, isn't bigotry. Bashing people who subscribe to those ideas for no other reason is bigotry. Not differentiating between those two things is where a lot of people fuck up.

I'm for cultural sensitivity, but when ISIS explicitly states in its propaganda-material that it's an islamic Armageddon-cult, shouldn't it be allowed to tie them to Islam?

(35,010 posts)A good way to close down griticism of religion:
I will simply refer you the the numerous posts suggesting that believers and adherents to what are called "evil" ideas are in turn enablers of others who commit violent acts in the name of their viewe of those ideas.
Accomplice liability in criminal law carries the same punishment as that given to the principal actor.
Accusing any observant Muslim of being an accomplice to terrorism is not an attack on an idea.
