54. My mother was also not religious

She had cancer, so we knew well in advance that she was dying. We opted for a small memorial service and I asked her sister, best friend and one of her teaching collegues to speak. No ministers. It was nice. We had lots of family photos. She wanted to be cremated, so we didn't have the expense of a burial. You can get basic caskets pretty cheap now. There are a lot of places that sell them online.
