In 1533, more than three decades after the male French nobility began wearing heels, the diminuitive wife of the Duke of Orleans, Catherine de Medici, commissioned a cobbler to fashion her a pair of heels, both for fashion, and to increase her stature. This was the first written record of the high-heeled shoe.

I think they do make women look sexier, but I encourage women not to wear them all the same.
