If he becomes the Democratic nominee and wins a presidential election, he becomes president. That's all it takes.

He's not in for this go-round, but I'm sure he'll be evaluating the prospects for 2024 over the next few years, and if not then, for 2028.


There's a remote chance he could be drafted this year if after the nomination Biden has to drop out (e.g., health emergency or something), but even in that case it would more likely go to one of the people who ran in this year's primaries.
