I know very little about him. However, his recent performance with the virus has impressed me.
Question: Is there any way he could be elected President in the future ? According to this article, right now he is not interested.
As I said, I know very little about him after reading his Wikipedia entry. Thanks for your time.

(53,102 posts)the same situation arose around his father. His father, Mario, was a wonderful governor. Extremely progressive. More so than Andrew. There was a lot of talk at the time of his governorship about his running for President.
If I recall correctly, he toyed with the idea for a while and then went a hard "no" on it, and never considered it again.
I don't know if there is some skeleton in the family closet, or if these guys are just too smart to take on the job.
I have had my differences with Andrew in the past, (and btw, Andrew, it's STILL the Tappan Zee Bridge, NOT the Mario Cuomo bridge!) but I would vote for him in a heartbeat if he chose to run next election.

(10,189 posts)came to America (I think early 1900s was somehow involved with the Mafia. It was stated that Mrs. Cuomo would be devastated if that came out so Mario said he would not put her through that. Don't know if it's true or not but that was the story at the time.

(53,102 posts)nothing ever came of it. That makes me wonder if it was true or if it was just an urban legend we told to explain his reluctance.

(38,007 posts)he could get elected in a NY minute. He apparently dropped from the presidential group when he made the statement he would complete his 3rd term as Governor.

(37,455 posts)If he becomes the Democratic nominee and wins a presidential election, he becomes president. That's all it takes.
He's not in for this go-round, but I'm sure he'll be evaluating the prospects for 2024 over the next few years, and if not then, for 2028.
There's a remote chance he could be drafted this year if after the nomination Biden has to drop out (e.g., health emergency or something), but even in that case it would more likely go to one of the people who ran in this year's primaries.

Cuomo's father turned down the suggestion of a presidential run, leading to some speculation of a family skeleton.
Conservatives in the state constantly say that Cuomo wants a presidential run and that's why he promotes progressive issues so strongly in NY. I have wondered about it myself. But not likely this year since he did not enter the primaries and has his hands very full right now.
My concern for NY right now (besides C-19) is that this is Cuomo's 3rd term. A Tea Party Congressman, Tom Reed, plans to run for governor next time. Reed has been polishing his image with phony "bi-partison" claims of promoting the problem-solving group in Congress. He supported Trump early, votes with Trump policies well over 90% of the time, and is a smooth talker in calling black white and up down. He even got an endorsement in his last election from the liberal Buffalo News, for which I cannot forgive them.
So I selfishly hope Cuomo stays with us to block Reed. But I do believe he would be a great national leader.
