City worker fired over Facebook posts files grievance [View all]
ANDERSON A former city worker fired for racially charged Facebook posts said he has filed a grievance against the city.
James Barber, a former plant operator for the city's Water Pollution Control Department, is claiming the city didn't follow proper procedures leading to his termination July 29.
Barber was fired after the city's personnel department looked into complaints about racially disparaging comments posted by Barber as he watched the Democratic National Convention.
Tom Brown, personnel director for the city, said the administration determined Barber violated city policies concerning workplace violence; conduct unbecoming a city employee; engagement in behavior that would constitute sexual harassment or discrimination; disrespect of managers; and using degrading or abusive language to any employee or member of the public.
