(404 posts)Neither the "first" nor the "second" ladies have any actual, elected, or appointed status with the government. They are accorded their "respect" due to the status of their husbands. This is also true of any "first or second" gentlemen.
The people of Greenland owe her nothing. They normally would be simply polite and waste valuable time, resources, and efforts to entertain and please her and put on photo-ops but nothing official.
However, due to her husband's and his "bosses" pointless, provocative, and repeated statements her visit is ill-timed and unnecessary. Imagine Jill Biden or Michelle Obama engaging in such petty gestures? How would the "republicans" react?
It would be interesting to know what is in Usha Vance's mind. Does she think she has some official status or power? Does she think as her husband and the current administration do, that she is some kind of princess to her husband's prince?
Overreach is very common among this generation of "elite" conservative republican politicians. They truly seem to believe their elected status, appointed status, or accidental status means they are "official" leaders over the people who elected them for life.
