I planned to watch a movie a night just to take me out of the real world, but could only make it through Order of the Phoenix. Then I read the rest of the books.

Spoiler alert: the evil guy bought the farm.

Hope your wife (and doggo) return to full health soon, and meanwhile you stay well too. I totally understand the appeal of soap operas at this point.
