I'm sorry you can't see the irony of your words. No, I am not at all defensive about being White. Some people on DU jumped on my ass when I delved into the fact that I believe I have Black ancestors, if only a smidgeon. Being Black is closely guarded. I am intrigued by the historical idea that being Black need only consist of two ancestral molecules of blood. This is a matter of history, and it is never too late to explore who you are. When I sought opinion on this, it didn't go so well.

So, I don't know for sure who I am. I appear White. I check off White. But, maybe, I'm not...who cares. I don't. You go ahead and cling to your prejudices; I am not concerned because I am just going to port my weapon, which is my vote, out to my post in November, which is my local voting place. I am going to apply MY vote (the vote that you appear to be disdainful of) as my weapon of choice, and attempt to vote every last Republican out of office. That's all I can do.

But, your prejudice against White people, no matter what the excuse or cause, is divisive, not good for your own health, and ultimately just proves out your position of isolationism. That's what you want, apparently. Anything to cling to your own personal hurts.

And, all the things that you mention do not sway me in disbelieving that most humans are just people that want to live in peace. We have had years of schooling to reach there, which is being broken down by the fascist GOP. THEY are the enemy, not your neighbors.

Again, I am not being defensive. I thought I was having a discussion, wherein you espoused prejudice against White people, and then, because I identify as White, you think you have found a plausible explanation to exploit as to the reasons I might say that racism is a two-way street. RACISM IS A TWO-WAY STREET. Don't kid yourself into thinking that because X happened, or Y happened, that YOU are not prejudiced, but it is okay to call another poster defensive about being White and say that it is why I spoke up.

And, by the way, your "fact" that many white people are going to try to hold onto their privilege is just something you made up. It is what you expect, and it is why we fail at race relations in this country.
