(6,309 posts)White women are white people. That's a fact. White women have advantages that minorities do not, because they are white. That's a fact. There are white women who supported Trump because it was more important to be part of the white majority than to stand for women's rights. That's a fact.
There is a difference between being scared of all white women and being scared of a Karen. I have white women friends. They are not Karens. They would not call the police because a black person was "in their space". They would not call the police if a black man stood his ground and said that she was not acting right.
Karens have power, and Karens abuse their power, and Karens can cause situations that are potentially lethal for black people. I don't see how I wouldn't be afraid of a Karen. Just as my people fear the police. Too often, the police are not fair-minded, and do not treat black people and white people with the same respect.
If you cannot understand why we fear people who hold power against us, then, well. You don't understand what it is like to be at the bottom. There are plenty of women who have been raped by a white man who come to fear white men. I would NEVER tell such a woman that her fears are unjustified, and that just because one white man raped her, she should not fear all white men. To do so is to deny or belittle her experience as a rape victim. Ironically, if a white woman was raped by a black man, and developed a fear of black men, everyone would say that this is logical.
Black people are very used to white people judging all of us based on the behavior of one, or a few. White people are NOT used to it when we do it to them. That's what's happening here. You think that because I am saying that white people have privilege and white women have privilege, and SOME white women will abuse that privilege, I'm talking about you personally, and you don't like that. Well. Welcome to my world.
Racism is when one group feels superior to another group. Hating Karens is not racist. It's pragmatic. If you think I am feeling superior to you, then yes, I'm racist. If you think that by saying that ALL white people, men and women, are able to experience white privilege, I am suggesting that black people are superior to you, then yes, I'm racist. If I look at how, consistently, the mass murderers in this country, who have shot up schools, grocery stores, churches, have been white males, and how I see a pattern, and say that by extension, there are white people in this country who believe in addressing replacement theory with violence, then I guess I'm racist.
But I think there is a big difference between seeing race, seeing a racial divide, seeing behaviors and attributing them to a race, is racist, then you and I have a very different definition. Most black people laugh at white people who think that there is such a thing as being "color blind". We do not believe that such a thing exists. We ARE black. We have experiences that white people will never have. We have a history that white people will never have. We experience discrimination in ways that white people do not. Even today. To diminish this by saying that you are "color blind" is to pretend that these differences do not exist. And it is racist. Because we do not have the luxury of pretending that white people and black people are the same, equal, and unilaterally treated with respect. It's not true. Just because one white person treats us with respect does not make up for the fact that an entire part of our country does not.
I think you believe in meritocracy. I used to believe in that. Now I know its a crock of shit. CONSTANTLY, there are studies that show that John (white) and Jamal (black), with identical credentials, are treated differently when it comes to job opportunities, housing opportunities, police experiences, and loan applications. So, meritocracy, like color blindness is another white myth that allows white people to feel good about themselves when in reality, it's not happening throughout the country, and therefore, cannot be counted on.
If you are going to fight for us, then it is because of certain beliefs that you have. And as I said in my opening post, we need white people who will fight with us, because we are in the minority. I am happy to have you fight with us. But I will not pretend for a minute that there are not white women who will fight against us.
I think it takes a LOT of courage for one white woman to shoot another white woman because of a difference in beliefs. In contrast, my desire to see Clarence Thomas dead is unequivocal.
