(7,947 posts)Free community college tuition benefits working class people, and also middle class (you can take Gen Ed classes and transfer those to the 4-year college, saving many thousants). Also, community colleges have a far more diverse population both in income and in age. AND community colleges now offer 1-year certificate programs in necessary job skills, like CNA, construction skills, and technology.
I look at the two proposals, and I truly think Biden's is more useful, and will help many more young people over the years, at a much lower cost.
Free tuition doesn't help anyone who already has accumulated great debt, so that would be another area to deal with. But it has to get done, and it has to be shown to benefit the country as a whole to get the votes necessary in Congress. I think we can make an effective case for loan forgiveness as unlocking the energy and ambition of young people. Elizabeth Warren has made that case.
