2. This poem has haunted me since the Seventies.

It was referenced, albeit incorrectly, as composed by Rudyard Kipling in a TV movie The Gathering with Maureen Stapleton and Ed Asner.

In the kitchen scene, Ed Asner and male compatriots gather to a tradition of reciting "Christmas in the Work House" (2/3 of the way of the film). I was hooked.

I tried to find it online but as mentioned, I got nowhere linking it to Rudyard Kipling. It was George R. Sims.

This epic should be taught to children, not just to recite but appreciate how Christmas not always joyous, but to the contrary, somewhere between humbling and something to curse.
