in these type of tournament set-ups. In soccer it has occurred more than a few teams. If Germany & USA realizing that a draw helps both of them, they could conspire to a draw which has been done before.

Same thing happened in badminton at the Olympic Games in London. Teams that already qualified losing on purpose for more favorable match-ups.

Also in baseball, the Yankees or Rays didn't care about winning the division in 2010 since MLB had a rule where divisional opponents couldn't face each other in the LDS.
