Tim Burton came out with a new, darker Batman vision, and Michael Keaton played a psychologically deep and darker Bruce Wayne/Batman. Rave reviews, and a brilliant over-the-top performance by Jack Nicholson as the Joker.

Then...

Chris Nolan comes out with a new, darker vision of Batman, and Christian Bale presents a nuanced psychological characterization. Rave reviews, and a brilliant over-the-top Oscar-winning performance by Heath Ledger as the Joker.

Burton, Keaton and Nicholson must have felt some massive deja vu during all this.

I haven't seen Birdman yet - still recovering from the cost of final 3D RealD Imax Hi Speed Hobbit movie, both financially and time-wise (I didn't fall asleep because it was SO LOUD!) - but I wonder if Birdman touches on this successful generational redo in any way?
