Thanks so much to the admins for creating this space.
I've never been involved in creating a new group, so I'd appreciate suggestions. If you have an interest in being a host here, please message me!
It's a pretty clear-cut, straightforward group as far as its Statement of Purpose, but here are a few more thoughts, for clarity:
1. This space does NOT take away from posting GOOD NEWS in General Discussion or elsewhere. In fact, perhaps with the posts that will be seen here in this new group, even more inspiring OPs will find their way to GD. The idea of having a GOOD NEWS Group is to have a "go-to" space when we need a lift, since GD is so busy and many great OPs often go unnoticed by many if it's a busy day.
As always, we'll need to make sure we're not duplicating posts in GD.
2. All types of Good News are welcome here, except for political good news; GD and Politics 2013 definitely need to host such posts. This is more for human interest stories and sharings with the intent to inspire some measure of optimism about Humanity. This includes news being reported on elsewhere, social media posts that are inspiring, as well as your own personal stories.
If something is posted and later discovered to be false or even a hoax, as we do elsewhere throughout DU, let's update the post accordingly.
3. In putting on my Pollyanna hat, I can't imagine there will be many naysayers disrupting this Group.
If people disagree about something that has been posted, feeling it isn't a "good" thing and in fact is harmful -- and have direct experience or facts to back up why they hold this opinion -- that is a worthy discussion and not disruptive, imho.
Otherwise, this isn't the space to do intense investigation into issues or dissect every aspect of a post. If a story is offered with good intent, to inspire or make us smile or simply to offer a ray of hope, let's try to accept it at face value.
I suppose we should let Thumper guide us here: IF YOU CAN'T SAY SOMETHIN' NICE, DON'T SAY NOTHING' AT ALL.
