with yet another NRA talking point: "crime is down because there are more guns." Bullshit!
Crime is down in the USA for a number of reasons, but none of those reasons are because there are more guns. Some of the reasons for the reduction in crime since the 1990s are: higher rates of incarceration, more proactive police surveillance and presence, and community and police involvement in social programs. There is absolutely no correlation between the proliferation of guns in the USA, and the reduction in crime. Gun deaths are on track to out-pace automobile deaths by as early as next year:

Statistically speaking, people are 100% less likely to be killed or wounded by a firearm, when there is no firearm present, and that includes suicides, than when a gun is available.
