2016 Postmortem
In reply to the discussion: My dad. Immigrant, Minority, Veteran, Trump Voter [View all]Vinca
(51,076 posts)32. How can someone connect with your dad when he believes Trump and doesn't investigate things?
Does he know where Trump makes his clothing line? It's in no textile mill within a thousand miles of any coastline here. Does he know that Trump has cracked wise about veterans like your dad saying things like his high school military school was just as hard as being in the "real" military and when his chance to serve came along he cried "bone spur" and then went skiing. Does your dad agree with the notion of privatizing the VA? Most vets don't. Maybe I'm alone in this, but I don't think people who voted for Trump against their own best interests need coddling. They'll figure it out eventually. Maybe your dad will see the light when he gets a voucher in the mail to buy health insurance.

So, if someone posts a message like this, the only appropriate response is to cuddle and coddle?

If opposing racism, Trump and his supporters is bigotry, I admit it -- I are a big ole BIGOT.

Rejecting racism is not elitism. Racism is bad. Trump is racist. A vote for Trump is a racist act

That may be true, but it doesn't make a vote for Trump any less inexplicable.
