9. There is no Satan in the Old Testament

There's a serpent in the beginning. Job features God in a contest with "an adversary," but not actually Satan. "Lucifer" is the Greek term for "dawn star" (i.e., the planet Venus, brightest "star" in the sky), and refers not to Satan r a literal fall from Heaven but to a prophecy about a future king of Babylon.

Satan was concocted slowly, over a period of centuries, by Jewish extremist groups like the Essenes.
