and what it means these days, and damned if that isn't the right definition.

You must respect all religious beliefs....because because.
You must respect the SCOTUS....because Constitution.
You were supposed to respect Bush when he was president....because patriotism.
You must respect the police....because they have the power. And guns.

I don't know when the definition of respect changed, but it sure has.
