Religious privilege... [View all]

I was at my nephew's wedding in So. Cal. this past weekend. Both he and his wife are atheists. During the ceremony there wasn't a single reference to 'god' or 'holy matrimony' or anything remotely religious.

It was a beautiful, moving ceremony with both young people committing themselves to each other for the rest of their lives.

Then, as the meal was being served, a table behind me, all held hands, bowed their heads, and said a prayer, loud enough for all to hear, and thanked god for the meal they were about to enjoy.

That really pissed me off.

1) "god" had nothing to do with the meal and 2) if you really wanted to thank someone for the $55/plate they were about to enjoy it should have been the bride and groom as they were the ones actually paying for/providing it!

Assholes.
