Justin Trudeau's new years wishes. [View all]

This Rosh Hashanah is the first since last year’s horrific terrorist attack on October 7. I know the pain of that day is weighing heavily on the celebrations in Jewish homes across the country.

It’s hard to celebrate hope and new beginnings while friends and family in Israel are under attack, while hostages are still held captive, and while antisemitism is so emboldened at home.

I know it’s a fraught time. Yet, the Jewish community has always been strong and close. I hope that tonight, Jewish Canadians are together, sitting side-by-side around the dinner table, finding strength and hope in each other. That is the gift of community.

May we end the year and its challenges, and begin the year with its blessings.

Well said Mr. Trudeau. 👏

I'm off to shul.
