Last year, 4 months into my new job at this hospital, a brain-damaged, alcoholic divorced janitor with a track record of having "a hard time accepting 'no' for an answer" fixated on me. He ultimately approached 4 co-workers that I know of -- including the phlebotomy supervisor -- seeking personal information about me. Only one of them appropriately told him to leave me alone. The others encouraged him, with 2 of them actively soliciting information from me (in the guise of chatting) to feed to him. I filed a sexual harassment complaint against the 1st one. The lab manager had a talk with her and then assigned me to spend an entire day with her.
She lacked the common sense to suspect that if he'd approached 2 co-workers about me, he might continue to approach others and did nothing to follow up. You know, like send out an email reminder the lab assistants that this isn't a dating service. Something. Then, on the same day the lab manager flipped out on me and threatened me to force me to work 12+ hour overnight shifts, a 3rd co-worker approached me trying to get info for him. I threatened her with a sexual harassment complaint and she backed off, but I no longer was willing to take it to management.
The perv stalked me around the hospital hallways for 5 months. I couldn't go to the bathroom without him running around the corner and chasing me down the halls. It happened so often I suspect somebody was tipping him off that I'd left the lab. And then one night when I was alone there and I had 3 critical patients, he shoved me into the computer 4 times while I was trying to enter their test results into the computer and on the phone with the ED doctors to advise the results.
The next time I was there -- again alone at night -- he blocked me from entering the lab and I told him to eff off.
He finally left me alone physically, but still would watch me from around corners and hang around all the time. When somebody cruised by my house staring at me, I told a co-worker of his what had happened to get a description of his vehicle. It wasn't him, but she told her boss and was finally fired.
The blatant sexism at this hospital is stunning.
