Like you, I've had several personal spiritual experiences, believe in the power of prayer and through faith, have gotten through many dark times in my life. As a result, I too am much happier, more peaceful as well as being more ethical and understanding of others. I do not believe that my spirituality is an error and it is most certainly not a mistake.
