2. I don't think this is a bad appointment

If it was a stated goal that the manager had to be English, there are not many choices. Realistically, Redknapp, Hodgson and Pardew, unless there are managers abroad I'm not aware of. I think Pardew stated he didn't want the job (I can't blame him). I suppose Mick McCarthy and Stuart Pierce might rate a mention but I don't think they were serious candidates.

So Redknapp: no international experience, no tactical nous. Apparently not bothered much about training which might be why his teams collapse late in the season. Decent man manager, though, in arm-around-the-shoulder, "get on with it lad; you'll be great" fashion, and might be the only manager that wouldn't be eaten alive by the press. Well-liked, though with possible scandals of dodgy dealings in the background.

Hodgson on the other hand, tons of international experience including national teams, has done a decent jobs keeping small clubs up. Turned WBA and Fulham around from near-death. Apparently his training sessions are boring and his recent Liverpool failure might mean little respect from the senior players and he doesn't seem the type to be able to impose himself either.

I don't know. Who besides Hodgson would have been a better choice?
