I had the same type of fears when we started playing 4E, but it's not even remotely WoW on paper.

We're currently mid-paragon (15th level) in our 4E game and have no signs of slowing down. It's been the longest and most fun game I've ever played in and it's a testament to 4E's balance and (pre-essentials) elegant design.
