Damage and health are very useful, and so is armor once you have access to it.

Focusing on the Fairy Chests helps because once you have all the enchantments they give permanent stat bonuses. I used the Architect to help me get some of the chests. There's also invisible fairy chests. You can "see" them by a little twinkling in the floor or wall, and there will be a secret passageway to it, but you may need to be a dwarf in order to use it.
