(10,163 posts)I will celebrate with champagne on the day each of them die and given the chance, I would gladly urinate on their graves as well...
As for the Patriots, the thing that bothers me about their success is the sheer volume of help the opposing teams and coaches have provided to them...to wit:
2002 - Rams - played into Belicheck's hand by Mike Martz refusing to run the ball (with Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk and Hall of Famer Orlando Pace available...), instead forcing throws against 7 and 8 DB looks for nearly the entire game (side note - this was also still the era where the referees allowed the Pats to cheat on defense and mug receivers by swallowing the whistle and sticking their flags in their asses - same thing they did to Manning and the Colts several times)...Pats win on last second FG, also greatly abetting Brady's drive to FG range by playing soft, "prevent" coverages...
2004 - Panthers - tied the game at 29...promptly kicked the ball OB and gave the Pats the ball at the 40 yard line with timeouts and perfect conditions...result? 2nd time Vinateri wins game on last second kick.
2005 - Eagles - McNabb started hyperventilating and vomiting on the field during the last chance drive that sealed another 3 point win for the Pats...this one was the LEAST amount of help given to them during their run of titles...
2015 - Seahawks - Carroll's decision to NOT hand the ball to Lynch on the 1 yard line, instead throwing a pass that was picked off, was reminiscent of his decision to NOT have Reggie Bush on the field in the USC-Texas Rose Bowl game years earlier...just DUMB AS A BOX OF ROCKS coaching GAVE THAT AWAY!
2017 - Falcons - 28-3 lead? AND THEY LOST???? All they had to do was RUN THE BALL and NOT TAKE SACKS...instead? Ryan takes late sack (HAS to know better than that, HAS to!!!), loses FG position with 8 point lead that would have iced the game and instead allowed the comeback to be completed. A hideous choke job that NONE of those players - Ryan, Jones, et al. - will EVER recover from...
The SB losses to the Giants and the Eagles just so happened to be the 3 times their opponent did NOT choke or help them win the game in mind numbing manners. Greatest ever? Bah! The Steelers of the 70's, Niners of the 80's or Cowboys of the 90's would dominate them.
