The NFL has altered so many rules/enforcement to favor the passing game, QB non-injury, and higher scoring that it is no longer possible to win the SB without a top talent at QB. The game is totally distorted to favor having the better QB, period. That's the majority factor, by a large margin, now. To a degree which was never so for the first 40-some SBs.

IOW, the days of winning with an extraordinary defense and mid QB (Ravens-Dilfer, Bears-McMahon) will never be seen again, and winning with a very good but not great QB is going to be rarer than it was historically.
