James Lee Burke - Dave Robicheaux series
Ian Rankin, especially the Rebus books
Jonathan Kellerman (Faye Kellerman, too).
Just for fun, you might try Raymond Chandler; Michael Connelly counts him as an influence. I think his stuff is great, even though it's not as contemporary as that of other writers in this thread.

I've read all the authors you mention - you might want to try Henning Mankel's 'Wallender' series.
