1. Odd how often these increases tend, in reality, to be punitive.

My last SS increase was a whopping $23. Two days after receiving that notice another arrived from our county social services, advising that this grand windfall compelled a $25 reduction in SNAP benefits. In other words, the COLA cost me $2.
