There are indeed worse fates than dying. Living with unrelenting pain, withering away, watching the circle of your social life contract as family and friends die. The last year of my father-in-law's life was worse than "the alternative."
I don't particularly want to drop dead of a heart-attach any time soon, but I can think of far worse fates.

I SO agree! The hardest for me is to have to ask someone else to do little jobs like that.
