In reply to the discussion: Why registration? What is gained by having a list of guns and owners? [View all]oneshooter
(8,614 posts)64. Once or twice a year I will buy small collections.
They average between 10 to 15 pieces. The sale is between me and the seller. Generally it is a all or nothing deal. That being so, I will purchase the entire collection to get the one or two I want.
The remaining I sell. Sometimes at shows, sometimes to dealers or to other collectors. I am not a dealer. I sell 10-12 firearms a year. Trade for 2-3 a year.
Been doing this for over 20 years.
According to current law I am not a firearms dealer, simply a collector.
I have a log of each and every purchase, and sale.
Am I one of your "illegal dealers"?

I would say there are four 'arguments in favor of' or 'reasons for' registration:

I'd prefer ID for all bullet sales, with the bullet projectiles laser-etched.

I think most shooting deaths are crimes of passion, or not well planned.
