Because it is absolutely no ones business what firearms I own. There will not be a "rule change" down the road, accompanied by a letter telling me to turn in my "once" legal firearm, as did happen to SKS owners in California (see letters below). This could be a very long post, there are several valid reasons for NOT registering your firearms, that simply trump the government's reason for wanting them registered. Think about this, you register your guns now, while a "friendly" to your political views government is in power...In a few years the far right gets into power, and since you are active on a left wing message board, you can potentially lose your civil liberties. It has already happened, look at the innocent people Bush-co's Patriot Act...
