how much I appreciated his work.

Both politically, where he was an articulate and significant advocate. And, as a director, where he had a unique talent. In a fairly short span of time, he made This is Spinal Tap, Misery, When Harry Met Sally, A Few Good Men, An American President. He had a really unique ability to create high quality work in very different genres. His role on All in the Family was iconic and holds up well 50 years later. In every public appearance I've seen, despite his success, he was down to earth - a mesnch.

RIP. I'm a bit saddened to be in a world without him in it.
