It's a lot to take in. A few years ago I came across a shop on Blvd Rochechouart in the Montmartre that was empty save a huge heap of old family photos on the floor. Hundreds of them, all black and white. After I'd walked past it a few times I asked a couple of passersby what it was all about. They both started talking so fast I couldn't make sense of any of it, but I realized later they were probably confiscated during the war, though I still don't know what they were doing in that little shop.

p.s. coincidentally this was just up the street from a large school, Lycée Jacques Decour, so the photos might have come from there.
