For soup beans (or bean soup) or chili. I can stock up on dry beans and cook what I need for the meal. I have cooked beans in a crock pot, but overnight. Now, I cook them on the stove for about 3 hrs.
My husband's aunt passed along a clue. If you have to add water, add boiling water, so you don't cool down the pot. The beans get done quicker

I started buying turkey backs and using them to make soup stock instead of beef.
