Disney crammed another character into the approved "mold". Why are you surprised? Everything Disney gets it's pernicious talons around, gets a forced makeover. (ex: see ABC). All according to focus groups, all to encourage profit.
Corporate Disney would make a wonderful villain for one of it's own stories, except the peasants get robbed, the prince gets eaten, and the princess get forced into prostitution.
