The damage to the crossing that makes it inoperable for aid is on the Gaza side - from bombing. A bomb crater very close to the crossing and rubble from a bombed and collapsed building.

All that could have been easily fixed. We know the IDF has bulldozers.

The question is why promise something if you know you can't or won't deliver, then come up with an alternative that may take weeks (?) to complete.
