Putin and his generals claimed, just a few weeks ago, that they had captured Kupyansk and were in the process of cleaning scattered Ukrainian pockets. Putin even decorated one general for capturing the city. Then Putin publicly stated that what happened in Kupyansk will happen across Ukraine. The Russians are now choking on their own lying words and Putin is humiliated.
The Russian apparatus is full of sycophants who lie to one another over and over. These lies are repeated in the western media because, well, you know, the Russians never lie. 
But I digress.
Ukraine outsmarted the Russians in Kupyansk. The Ukrainians also outsmarted them in Pokrovsk (now almost completely taken) and the neighboring town of Myrnohrad. The Russians are losing ground and their casualty numbers are growing daily. Combine this with the political and economic woes within the Russian Federation and it spells out a momentum moving rapidly in Ukraine's' favor.
