I have another question concerning my cable internet connection [View all]

I decided I'd start a new thread because I now have another question but first let me tell you what I did. Last summer I bought a linksys wireless router (wrt54g ver 2) at a garage sale for a couple bucks. I am using it so I can use wireless as the modem the cable company provided for me is a wired only modem and my wired connection doesn't work. I haven't got it to work yet anywho. I think it may be a driver problem and I don't know how to correct that so thats where I need some help now.
My question is how do I get my wired connection to work in ubuntu 10.10 in case I ever think I need to use a wired connection instead of a wireless one
My computer is a dell dimension 4700. I know, I know, friends don't let friends buy a dell but when I bought this in '91 I didn't know that and other than this it has been bullet proof, so far. Knock on wood.

Thanks all, I appreciate the help
peace

Found out what the problem was, my board was fried so rather than spend a couple three hundred bucks upgrading this 10 year old computer the money would be better spent on a new one so I bought an amd quad core A6 3.2 with 8 gig of ram and one 1T
harddrive. Have no Idea as to why, its not like I need it or anything. I guess its like with fast cars, fast girls/boys whichever, just gotta have it. I can scoot right along with the best of them now. This thing is blindingly fast using ubuntu compared to window7 it came with.
At first trying to play around with windows it was like window was so slow, just limping along compared to my 10 year old old computer running ubuntu 10.10. I got up early and made the systems disk and emergency start up of the install of windows and then wiped it clean. Ubuntu rules
