I don't know why it's taking longer, but my first guess is that your Wi-Fi could be cycling through different networks before it finds one it can really connect with. If I were you, I'd review the list of WiFi networks it knows about (and thus, tries to connect with). To review your list of preferred Wi-Fi networks, go to:

- System Preferences
- Network
- Wi-Fi
- Advanced

And you'll see your list of Preferred Networks.

You should

(1) delete all the ones you don't really use routinely (e.g. hotel free wifi, etc.)
(2) drag the ones you connect with often to the top of the list
(3) when it's in the right order, hit "Ok" and then "Apply" to save the updated list.

This might not help, but it certainly won't hurt and might be the source of your delays.
