venting [View all]

I have 2 laptops. The Dell is mine, which I used until I tipped it and broke the corner by the hinge that was already broken (Dell seems to have a problem with hinge fatigue) The other is an HP that belonged to my husband. I started using that right after I dropped the Dell, until it displayed a message about a fan problem. I vacuumed the computer, all the vents, keyboard, etc. and the message didn't show for a few days. When it showed again, I checked for a local repair, read the reviews, and took both computers to a local shop on Dec. 2nd. I wanted the information taken off the damaged Dell, and I wanted the fan repaired on the HP. Someone from the shop called me and said the HP didn't have a fan problem. I said the message showed up and I wanted a fan installed, jic. Since then, I called after 3 weeks, and the person I spoke to said they'd look around the shop and find a fan to put in it. I said I wanted a new fan. I called again at 4 weeks, and just now today. The people I talk to say that they combine orders, so hadn't got a fan yet. Today, they tech said they are having trouble getting a fan. I told them to gather my computers, make a bill for whatever they've done and I'll pick them up tomorrow.

If they had told me that they didn't want to order the fan, or wanted me to pay s/h, I would have done either. I was never snarky, although at 4 weeks I was impatient. I had things on the Dell that I was hoping to recover, like 50 pages of my dream diary, emails, and so on. I wanted to avoid buying a new laptop by getting the fan replaced. I imagine now that I will either have to find a shop that will do the work timely, or just buy a new laptop. I am really p.o.'d. The reviews for this place were positive, although today I read on BB site that it took 10 months for this place to fix a port, and she had to threaten to sue.

Thanks for reading.
