The party is over: Party City to shutter all stores after nearly 40 years [View all]

Party City, which operates 16 Washington stores and more than 850 across the country, is closing all of them, according to national media reports.

Friday was the last day of work for corporate employees, the retail chain's CEO, Barry Litwin, told them in a videoconference call watched by a CNN reporter.

The company has 10 stores in the Puget Sound area:

Bellevue: 15600 NW Eighth St., Suite E-2
Covington: 27339 Covington Way SE
Everett: 1402 SE Everett Mall Way
Federal Way: 31417 Pacific Highway S.
Lakewood: 5919 Lakewood Towne Center Blvd., Suite G
Lynnwood: 2617 196th SW, Suite A
Puyallup: 10408 156th St., Suite 101
Silverdale: 9551 Ridgetop Blvd. NW, No. 100
Tukwila: 17356 Southcenter Parkway
Woodinville: 18027 Garden Way NE

The company, founded in 1986 and headquartered in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, has been struggling financially in recent months. In January 2023, Party City filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection as it sought to pay off a $1.7 billion debt largely due to supply chain problems and faltering brick-and-mortar sales.
