Metts saga continues [View all]

LEXINGTON, SC (WIS) -

One of the men involved in the saga surrounding former Lexington County Sheriff James Metts was arrested in connection with a Sunday night murder. Gregorio Leon, a restaurant owner, is charged with murder, attempted murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Leon, according to the federal government, paid money to Sheriff Metts in an effort to keep several of his undocumented workers out of the hands of a federal government database.

Metts was indicted by the federal government on corruption charges, but pleaded guilty to helping to harbor illegal aliens. He received 12 months and one day in prison.

Leon, meanwhile, avoided prison time for his part in the saga. However, he received 1 year probation, 200 hours of community service, and a $180,000 fine. He was also ordered to cooperate with the government.
