Cheri Beasley leading Ted Budd in latest poll as Budd’s positions become even more unpopular

The latest poll in North Carolina’s hugely important race between former state Supreme Court Chief Justice Cheri Beasley and right-wing extremist Rep. Ted Budd shows Beasley with a four-point lead.

In Blueprint’s poll, conducted from Aug. 4-6, Beasley has a 46-42 lead over Budd with 12 percent of voters still undecided. Beasley leads big among women, independent voters, and college-educated voters. There are a number of possible reasons for Beasley’s rise, and one of them is simply that she has been spending lots of time on the road meeting voters where they live. In contrast, Budd has made numerous national headlines for his right-wing extremist views and votes against landmark measures such as lowering prescription drug costs.

Throughout his Senate campaign, Budd has routinely avoided talking about his vote to overturn the 2020 election and the election lies he helped spread – particularly downplaying the attack on our Capitol, stating the attack was, “nothing” and “just patriots standing up.”
Budd called the overturning of Roe v. Wade “a historic victory,” putting him at odds with around 62% of the country and 55% of North Carolinians who support the right to an abortion.
Budd also voted against the Respect for Marriage Act, which would recognize same-sex and interracial marriages at the federal level, as well as North Carolina Democratic Rep. Kathy Manning’s Right to Contraception Act, which would guarantee access to contraception.
Bottom Line:

This recent poll shows that voters can see Cheri Beasley is on the right side of these issues. “Tax Hike” Ted is yet another Republican whose extreme agenda is out of step and out of touch with what North Carolinians actually care about.
