New York is regarded as a solid "blue state," but the reason is the more heavily populated downstate. I'm upstate in a predominantly Republican area, but that's mainly local politics. I don't know anyone personally who can stand Trump. But then last fall before the election, I drove a little way north to see a friend of mine who lives in a log cabin, very remote, quite a beautiful area, and I got lost. I had never seen a single Trump sign in my travels before, but up there, they were all over the place! I was not only shocked, but I was reluctant to stop and ask for directions!
