A Republican on the board of supervisors decided to drop out, but it was too late to remove his name from the ballot. So he was persuaded to continue in the race and since he was expected to win, another Republican could be appointed to take his place. But that really backfired when the truth came to light. Democrats won all but one seat and now have a majority for the first time. Republicans are feeling the Trump backlash and are trying anything to hold onto their seats. They're going to be even more desperate come the 2018 midterms.
